Every manufacturer needs a smaller truck just in case drivers don’t need something huge, and in this case, that’s the Tacoma. While this isn’t the strongest in the family, it does make for an attractive city driver who can still get work done. At its longest, the Tacoma sits at 226 inches, while it’s still long, it will be easier to maneuver in the city.
Despite being on the smaller side, the Tacoma can tow up to 6,500 pounds. While this is a truck that can get work done, it also has room for excitement. In recent years, the Tacoma offers the TRD Off-Road, the TRD Sport, as well as the TRD Pro.
TRD Pro models come with a terrain select mode, which allows the driver to choose between different types of terrain, such as loose rock, mud, and sand. This also came with various branded features that helped make the vehicle stand out even more, and protect your truck thanks to better suspension and skid plates.
In the previous generation, the 2.7L I4 engine was the most efficient one. Getting an EPA-rated 22 MPG combined. While efficient, it is also powerful, getting 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque.
In the most recent generation starting in 2023, this engine, and the most efficient option, is replaced by the 2.4L I4 hybrid engine. This engine gets you an EPA-rated 24 MPG combined, produces 326 horsepower, and 465 lb-ft of torque.
If hybrids aren’t your thing, you’ll still have access to a traditional gas-powered engine, while it doesn’t get as much MPG, it isn’t far behind at 23 MPG combined. At its best, this engine can produce 278 horsepower, as well as 317 lb-ft of torque.
