The Honda Accord is one of the best-selling vehicles of all time. Selling more than 18 million vehicles worldwide, with 10 million having been on roads here in the US. That means if you’re in the market for a used one, there’s a good chance you’ll get exactly what you want. We’ll look at some changes to see what the best used Honda Accord's best trim levels and features are.
Key Takeaways:
- If you liked the coupe, then you'll need to look for models before 2017.
- The Accord offered both hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, with the latter being more exclusive.
- The Accord kept getting wider, with the eighth generation now being a full-size sedan.
Seventh Generation (2002-2006)
This was the first generation of the new millennium, and with it came a larger body. Offered in both coup and sedan models, a hybrid model was introduced in 2005.
When this generation first hit the road, it came with a I4 that can produce 161 horsepower, but that was upgraded in 2005, able to make 166 horsepower.
To make the coup more appealing, they made a more aggressive one for 2003. This came with a 240 horsepower V6 engine that was paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. It comes with 17-inch wheels, perforated leather seating, a better stereo system, and even carbon fiber dash pieces. With all of these features, and specs, you could hit 0-60 in 5.9 seconds.
Eighth Generation (2007-2011)
When this one hit the market, it now gained the “full-size” designation from the EPA. Coming with a coupe, sedan, and even a fastback model that was introduced in 2010.
Coming with two engine options, these were the 2.4L I4 that could get 177 horsepower. As well as a 3.5L V6 engine that could make 272 horsepower.
Ninth Generation (2012-2016)
Coming in 5 trims for this generation, you can find the LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, and Touring trims. The Sport, LX, EX, and EX-L trims come with a 2.4L I4 engine that generates 185 horsepower, with the Sport seeing slightly more power at 189 horsepower. The touring trim comes with a V6 that makes 278 horsepower, making it the strongest engine so far.
When the 2014 models came out, so did the hybrid model. This came with a 2.0L I4 engine that’s paired with an electric continuously variable transmission. When combined with the 1.3 kWh battery pack, this vehicle had an EPA combined 47 MPG.
A Plug-in hybrid was also available for a short time in New York and California. While they were exclusive to those two states at least, they have since been available all over the US. Having only been sold in 2014, only 1000 units were sold. If you do manage to find one, you’ll be treated to an EPA estimated 115 MPGe and 46 combined MPG.
Tenth Generation (2017-2022)
This generation marked the death of the coupe, leaving the sedan as the only build. For the first few months of the model, you could only find a 1.5L VTEC I4. This engine would produce 192 horsepower, and was paired to a CVT, or a 6-speed manual. A 2.0L VTEC I4 was offered a few months later, and would make 252 horsepower. This came with a 6-speed manual, or a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The Hybrids went on sale in 2018, with a reduction in size for the battery, and moved from the trunk to the rear seat. For 2021, all models saw a facelift. This came with a new grille, new wheel designs, and better headlights. Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto is now standard on all models, with wireless functionality reserved for the higher-end trims.
Eleventh Generation (2023- Present)
This generation comes with longer overhangs, making the exterior even longer. This was done to accommodate the new hybrid powertrain.
This gen also comes with the same 1.5L I4 from the previous generation, but thanks to its new tuning, and features, it’s quieter. The 2.0L was also dropped this year. The interior of the vehicle now comes with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen making it the largest screen for a Honda in North America.
