When this generation came out, it came standard with a 2.0L I4 engine. Two other engines were also offered as well. These were the 3.5L V6 and the 2.7 twin-turbo V6.
This generation was available in 4 trims. The SE, SEL, Titanium, and the Sport. At first, the SE came with a 4.2-inch display, but if you find a model that is an SEL or higher, you may find that it comes with an 8-inch screen.
The first set of changes came with the 2019 model. While this brought some new looks to the bumper, grille, and wheels, it also brought a new trim. Taking the place of the Sport trim, the ST joins the lineup. This came exclusively with the twin-turbocharged V6 engine.
This refresh brought some new features across the board. These were automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic high-beam headlamps. These features are part of Ford Co-Pilot360.
2020 saw some more changes, one being for comfort and the other brought the vehicle to a more modern era. This brought dual-zone automatic climate control, while getting rid of the CD player.
The 2021 model saw some more changes, and these were even bigger than the last set. This came with a new standard 12-inch screen and featured wireless phone connectivity.
The ST-Line was also added in 2021. This was based on the SEL trim, but gained some ST finishes. Giving the more affordable trim, a sporty look. Unlike the ST, the ST-Line comes equipped with a 2.0L I4.
Out of the two sportier models, the ST has more power with 335 horsepower, compared to the ST-Line’s 245 horsepower. The 3.5L engine sits in the middle at 280 horsepower. Out of these engines, if you’re looking for efficiency, then you’ll want the 2.0L I4 that is standard on most trims. This will get you 25 MPG combined, going more than 450 miles on one tank.
No matter which year you get, you’ll find a comfortable interior. For the front row, you have access to 42.6-inches of legroom, while the rear has 40.6-inches. Despite this much space, the rear comes with a ton of space too. You have access to 39.2 cu-ft of cargo space, making it easy to load everything you need.
Much like the interior dimensions, the safety after 2019 was the same for the rest of the generation. Thanks to some updates, the Edge after model year 2018 has the Top Safety Pick by the IIHS, making it a great option all around.
Unfortunately, despite being as good as it was, the Edge was discontinued. While you can’t get a new one, you can look for a great used model.
